Lick the Spoon
launches Chocolate Making Workshops
Chocolatier
Lick the Spoon have launched the first of a series of chocolate
making workshops at their Corsham chocolate factory.
Titled
‘An Introduction to Fine Chocolate’ the workshop will provide an
understanding of the chocolate making process, from the importance
of the ‘terroir’ of the cocoa bean through a fun tasting
session, and finally the chance to make chocolates to take home.

Lick
the Spoon launches Ice Cream in Cirencester Shop
Chocolatier
Lick the Spoon have teamed up with the award winning
Somerset ice cream producer Mendip Moments to launch ice cream in
their Cirencester shop.
Mendip Moments produce all of their ice cream
using milk and cream from their pedigree herd on Haydon Farm
overlooking Glastonbury Tor.
Lick the Spoon company founder Diana Short
said “We always planned to launch ice cream once our Cirencester
shop was established as it is a natural counterpoint to chocolate
in the hot weather.

this week. The shop is situated in historic Black Jack Street

Chocolatier Short Listed For First Country Living and Waitrose Made
In Britain Awards!
Diana Short of Lick the Spoon from
Chippenham has reached the finals of the inaugural Country Living
and Waitrose Made in Britain Awards. One of only 18 businesses from more than 200 food and drink
producers that entered the Awards, Lick the Spoon is hoping to be
selected as one of the five Made in Britain Food Producers of the
Year at the Awards Ceremony on Friday 5th September.
Each of the selected five Made in
Britain Food Producers of the Year will have the chance to see their
product on the shelves in local Waitrose branches, have their
product on display at the Country Living Christmas Fair 2008 (12 –
16 November) and will also receive £5,000 from Waitrose to develop
their business. One of these talented producers will also be named
overall Made in Britain Food Champion of the Year and will receive
an additional £5,000. In addition, all winners and finalists will
be featured in a special booklet, free with the October 2008 issue
of Country Living magazine, on sale Monday 15th

Friday 14th March 2008 the winners of the Wiltshire
Life Awards initiative were announced at a ceremony held at
Wilton house, Wilton, Wiltshire. Former Conservative Party
Deputy chairman and bestselling author Michael Dobbs presented
a total of 10 awards recognising excellence across Wiltshire.

The best of the South
West products were named this week
at the ceremony for the Taste of the West Awards 2007.
Renowned chef and regional food ambassador Michael
Caines MBE presented a total of 19 awards including eleven
Best of Category product awards.

secured the prestigious Best of Bakery and
Confectionery title as the
winners of the final round of judging were named at the

Is Chocolate an Aphrodisiac?
Well not if you’re a hardworking
Chocolatier burning the midnight oil and failing to get it on
with your other half! For the rest of us however chocolate
might just tickle the parts that oysters fail to reach! Need
more convincing?….read on….
The ancient Mayans drank it for fertility, and the
Aztecs were convinced that chocolate was a potent aphrodisiac.
King Montezuma had rather a large harem which, as all harem
keepers know, requires considerable dedication to satisfy.
Fifty cups of chocolate a day later and Monte was a happy man.
It’s difficult to know of course which part of the heady mix
worked. A known active ingredient is the stimulant theobromine,
but there may have been other stimulants added to that heady
mix. This chocolate drink flavoured with spices such as
vanilla and chilli peppers was even exchanged
as a part of the Mayan marriage ceremony.... click

The Chocolate Revolution?
There is a chocolate gold rush underway
fuelled by increased awareness of a public hungry for good
quality, traceable foods, and retailers are at the front line as
small independent manufacturers and established confectioners vie
for the luxury pound. There are few people who don’t like
chocolate, and everyone has their favourite, be it a Kit Kat or an
exclusive high cocoa dark bar. Many retailers will need to appeal
to both ends of that spectrum, but when faced with the daunting
array of “High end” products with price tags to match, how do
